An Interview with Kayla Andrade by Hanan Awaad
Within a reportage project that aims to dig deep into the real estate investment world, Corporita Magazine has contacted Kayla Andrade to ask her about being a landlord.
Q. What made you choose this field?
I moved from St Johns Newfoundland, with my family when I was eleven years old and settled in Cambridge, Ontario, where I have been living for the past 15 years. Later, I met my wonderful husband, Eric. We started investing in rental properties when we were 18 years old. Since my father-in-law has been investing in rental properties for the past 35 years, my husband and I were taught everything that we needed to know from him.
Right now, Eric and I own a five-plex and a duplex in Cambridge. I enjoy being a landlord of these types of rental properties where the tenants are responsible for paying for their own utilities so that I am able to invest money into the property, rather than covering the utilities bills.
Q. Besides being a landlord yourself, you provide advocacy to other landlords ; how is that?
Since 2010 I have been an advocate for landlords, fighting to get landlords rights and fairness and advocate for changes to the RTA, LTB, and Municipal bylaws. Since 2010 I have now become landlord consulted based in Ontario, Canada. As a landlords consultant, I specialize in tenant screening, on-site landlord coaching, mediation and consulting services.
