Pregnancy is a huge turning point in the life of a mother-to-be. While caring for the woman’s health during the pregnancy and after is important, caring for the woman’s health before being pregnant is much more important. Your health before pregnancy might affect your baby’s health, which is why it is important to get your body ready for pregnancy.

To learn more about pregnancy planning, Corporita Magazine has contacted Manar Kassem,
Nutrition Therapist, Pharmacologist and Advanced Medical Nutritionist and the founder of Nutrition Intervention Program (NIP).

Q. Manar, you always highlight the link between proper mental and physical development and appropriate nutrition, how does the Nutrition Intervention Program (NIP) that you founded help in this arena?

The NIP provides individualized intervention to restore children’s digestive health and proper absorption for optimal growth. At the NIP, we apply evidence-based dietary interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorder and other digestive health issues such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Food Allergies as well as Malnutrition. Also, the NIP supports digestive health to overcome some mental conditions like autism, related disorders, and schizophrenia. Not only do dietary changes improve digestive health, other physical symptoms, and overall health, but also they alleviate behavioural symptoms and improve the child learning ability.

Q. The focus of our discussion today is pregnancy planning, when do you think that a woman should start planning for her pregnancy? And where to start?

When a woman is planning to have a baby, she has to start as soon as possible considering her environment. As we all know, we are exposed to harmful toxins in our environment. Chemicals are imposed on us through food, water, and air; there is an extensive list of pollutants from pesticides, food additives, household products to industrial hazards. Significant exposure to such elements will end up in the baby’s system that might lead to brain damage and other health issues.

So, my advice is starting with your close environment: don’t plan a renovation and fix your old paint long enough before planning to have a baby; use efficient filters or get toxin levels checked in your water supply; avoid big sized fish like sharks and tuna, these fish have naturally occurring mercury in their bodies that cause a lot of health hazards to human including brain development issues in kids.; it is wise during pregnancy to go for hand size types of fish, and It’s also recommended to replace teeth amalgam silver filling long before pregnancy planning for the same reason. And always check out your environment and keep it clean.
