‘Running and hiding…running and hiding from city to city, village to village…The terror of being captured shattered Zinaida’s idyllic life. The Russian and German invasions of Latvia changed the lives of Zinaida and her family, forever. Follow this true story of their escape from Latvia into exile in Germany and the eventual journey to a brand new life. These experiences helped shape their new life in Canada. Unlike many Latvians, they were the fortunate ones, but at what price?’
My journey to have my first nonfiction book published basically started with me contacting a literary agent whom I connected with on social media. He was interested in representing me, though I had to submit a book proposal first. So, not knowing at all what a book proposal was never mind how to write one, I spent hours researching and then writing it up.
However, in the end, he did not have time to represent me.
‘Wow really?’ I thought. ‘I spent all that time.’
I felt so disappointed and defeated. A few days later, I thought,
‘Well, at least I learned what a ‘book proposal’ is and how to write one up!’
I did contact other agents along the way, each ending in rejections.
‘In the blackness of the night, lights switched on within the houses, scattered like fireflies in the dark sky. Shouts and cries pierced the air. Men, women and children were pushed into dingy, ominous trucks. It was a night of terror.’
In the meantime, I still plugged along with writing my book to completion, praying to God and sending energy to the Universe to help me in crossing paths with the people I needed to publish and market my book.
Just a short time later, perhaps within one week, another contact I have on social media advertised that she was offering a deal on her Public Relations services :
‘Attention musicians, artists, writers, etc. I am offering a special of 5 hours for $____..’
Oh, my…this is perfect! She and her special offer is an answer to what I have been asking. Ask and you shall receive. It works.
