Five Ways To Maintain Your House Security

Canary Connect, Inc.
In 2015, Canada had 159,338 reported breaking-in and entering incidents[1]. Although insurance companies will cover some of the costs associated with burglary claims, homeowners bear their share of the costs and losses in addition to the uncomfortable feeling of being unsafe in your own house. Here are five tips to increase your home security:

  • Check all your doors and windows and make sure all locks are working properly.
  • Do not block the view from inside your house (through doors, windows, and fence) with trees and shrubs.
  • Strengthen all glass windows or use laminated or tempered glass instead of regular easy-to-break glass.
  • Check your rooftop, and unexpected entry points like openings of air-conditioners.

Security should be a priority for all family members or all home residents, including kids. By involving everyone in discussions, they can learn simple rules and techniques to keep the premises safe and secure. Ask everyone to routinely secure door and window locks including the garage door, and make sure of the identity of calling visitors before opening the door and letting them in.

Do you leave a spare key under your doormat? Almost all people around the globe know that trick including burglars. Think of smart hide places for your extra keys, alarm remote, jewelry, valuable items and important documents.

Bad guys keep away from the light! By leaving the lights on (not all of the lights), you will give the impression that your house is occupied. You can use timers to switch on and off your lights, your TV or even other machines.

Hiring a security company will give a chance to get a specialist to assess how safe your house is.  Buying an alarm system is always advisable, especially when you read the contract and the fine print and get a well-respected company to provide you excellent service.
