Advertising Industry and Bernaysism

As Bernays explains: “We are governed, our minds are moulded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of.” Democracy is moulding minds and manipulating society using ‘an invisible government’ to make people believe what they want them to believe. The real power is to be part of this invisible government but not to smoke, drive, eat or drink what you promote. Just like athletes who promote coke and Big Mac.

Lucky

Bernays established a mechanism that wraps any product in whatever we believe. If you are keen to be slim, then smoking makes you slim …. if you want to be equal to men , then smoking will solidify this equality. In all cases, go and light a Lucky. Bob Marley once sang, don’t let them fool ya, but we are already fooled. Marketers always speak about the women buy-power, our disposal income, our role in the household decision-making process, and our insecurities that we try to hide. Bernaysism teaches them how to manipulate us, mould our minds, form our tastes and suggest our ideas. Bernaysism created new forms of illness: compulsive shopping, body-image dissatisfaction, eating disorders, and other behavioural disorders.

Hey sisters, do not let them fool you anymore. They put us under the microscope, study us, and they are ready to deal with our complexity and they help us build more complexities. They market to us through direct channels, indirect channels (kids and spouses) and social media. For them, we are a marketing opportunity, a category on a chart and an important link in the relationship-marketing chain. WE shop everywhere and buy almost all brands, from detergent to hi-tech. we just want to have everything and be everything. We want to be strong, powerful, career women, super moms, trophy wives and 5-stars chiefs. They tried all sort of strategies, Shrink it and Pink it …. Girls Power …. Mama’s Best Burger …. No-Iron Shirts … and Sell the Great Lifestyle. They dig the statistics … map our behaviour …. trap us with credit cards … and make shopping more easy , convenient and trendy. It feels cool to buy, but it is awesome not to be tricked.

/ Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any redcomenoatimns for novice blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
